Non Dom remittances via credit cards

For any non doms looking to assess when income is or is not classed as remitted to the UK, it's important to note that income counts as remitted if it is received in the UK on your instructions. It therefore doesn't need to be received directly by you to be classed as a remittance. Therefore paying a UK supplier with an overseas cheque or paying off a UK credit card with a transfer from an overseas bank account would be classed as a remittance. Using an overseas credit card in the UK that is linked to an overseas bank account will also be classed as a remittance. It used to be possible to purchase moveable assets overseas such as paintings and avoid tax when the assets were brought back to the UK. This will also now be classed as a taxable remittance subject to the new exemption rules.
